About the group

A competitive league,
run properly.

The group meets every Friday evening and plays a complete tournament rather than open court time. The three elements below are what make the format work.

Balanced Team Selection

Pairings are generated from each member's skill rating so that team strengths are as close as the roster permits. Members are not paired with the same partner in consecutive weeks.

Recorded Results

Every match is scored and recorded during the session. Scores entered by a participating member require confirmation from the opposing pair before they are accepted.

Skill Ratings

Ratings account for the strength of the opposition and the margin of each result, and are updated once per session. They determine team selection the following week.

Session format

How a Friday is run.

The same structure applies each week.

Confirm Attendance

Members confirm attendance in advance. Places are allocated in order of response, and a waiting list operates once the session is full.

Team Selection

Teams are drawn once attendance is final, balanced by rating and avoiding repeat partnerships.

League Stage

A full round robin. Three points are awarded for a win, with ties separated on points difference.

Knockout Stage

The top four teams advance. First plays fourth and second plays third, followed by a third-place match and the final.

Settlement

Court hire and shuttles are divided between those who played and deducted from each member's prepaid balance. No collection is required on the night.

Guest policy

Guests attend as the responsibility of a member.

This is a private group for the Kayalpatnam community and there is no public booking. Members may bring a guest, provided an administrator is informed in advance so that a place can be reserved and the session fee accounted for. The member who makes the invitation remains responsible for it.

Three sessions to full membership

After attending three sessions, a guest is added to the roster with a balance and a skill rating of their own.
